March 2015
Dear Ladies of Palmetto Presbytery,
I am writing to let you know how the Lord is working in our Presbytery. In January, our Presbytery met and approved the division of our Presbytery into three separate presbyteries, to take effect in January 2016. This must still be approved by the General Assembly of our denomination which will meet in June. Since it is very likely that this approval will happen, our Leadership Team has already begun to make plans to enable women’s ministry to continue and flourish in all three of the new presbyteries.
To ensure a smooth transition to three presbyteries of active women’s ministry, we plan to schedule meetings between our current Leadership Team and interested ladies from each of the new presbyteries. We would also like to continue our Fall Retreat tradition and have one lady from each presbytery leadership team to work together to accomplish this. The speakers we have been able to engage in recent years has been due to the number of ladies who attend. Pooling our efforts will allow us to continue this.
Part of our plans and one of the items we will ask you to vote on at this Spring Gathering is the proposed disbursement of the funds (Operating Fund and Missionary Emergency Fund) on hand for Palmetto PresWIC at the end of 2015. The proposal is to divide the Operating funds equally among the new presbyteries’ Women’s Ministry Leadership Teams. This allows each new presbytery Women’s Ministry Team to have ‘seed’ money to begin ministry immediately. The Missionary Emergency Fund will be divided equally among MNA and MTW missionaries whose home church is in the current Palmetto Presbytery. This money will go to their Emergency Funds.
Please remember that these plans are all contingent upon the decision of the General Assembly in June. In the unlikely event that the division of the presbytery is not approved, we will file these plans away and continue to operate as Palmetto PresWIC beyond next January. I will be sure to post information about this on our website (www.palmettopreswic.org) as soon as I get the official word in June.
Please be in prayer for these plans as we seek to glorify God in all of our actions.
